Programs
One of the greatest strengths of CVUUF is the abundance of opportunities to get involved. Whether it's for spiritual growth, social action, worship or fellowship, we have it all. Below is a brief description of some of these programs.
Neighborhood Networks
The good news is, from the day you visit us, you're already in a group! We have ten Neighborhood Networks that are defined by geographic area. These groups generally meet for social activities, as decided upon by the members. They also serve as a great local support system. Help is a phone call away possibly right down the streetwhen you need it.
Groups! Groups! Groups!
At CVUUF, there is a group for everyone. Our Community Groups offer a place for people to share their joys and concerns and develop lasting friendships. Covenant Groups are similar, but require more consistent attendance and each meeting is focused on a particular topic. We also have spiritual practice and earth-centered groups, men's groups, women's groups, social justice projects and support groups, just to name a few.
Religious Education
Our Religious Education (RE) program encourages intellectual, social, emotional, cognitive and spiritual development of children, youth and adults. A dedicated group of RE teachers welcomes children and youth into age-appropriate classes each Sunday. Infants and toddlers through the age of three are cared for by professional childcare providers in Childspace.
Our Coming of Age program fosters the transition of our youths into young adulthood. Our Whole Lives is a series of sexuality education curricula for six age groups: grades K-1, grades 4-6, grades 7-9, grades 10-12, young adults (ages 18-35), and adults.
Adults have several RE courses to choose from throughout the year. Each series runs for a set number of weeks and is generally held in the evenings or on weekends.
Community Forum
The Community Forum program is an ongoing series of events, including speakers, films, and discussions addressing issues of concern in our community and society. Community Forum events are open to the public and typically take place at least once per month.
Social Justice
CVUUF's Faith in Action group spearheads advocacy efforts and programs on a variety of issues, including marriage equality, peace, immigration and human rights, housing, preserving our environment, reproductive rights, and alleviating hunger and poverty locally and in our world.
Interweave
Interweave is a membership organization affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association. It is dedicated to the spiritual, political, and social well-being of Unitarian Universalists who are confronting oppression as lesbians, gay men, bisexual persons, transgender persons, and heterosexual allies. The CVUUF Interweave chapter is working in our congregation to raise awareness of bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender issues and to make CVUUF a safe, warm, and welcoming place for all people regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity or expression. The group aims to celebrate LGBT culture, address the spiritual needs of the LGBT community at CVUUF, and have a place to collectively advocate for equality.
Music and Drama
Opportunities abound to participate in music and drama at CVUUF. In addition to our magnificent adult choir, we have several singing and instrumental ensembles. If acting is more your thing, you may want to join our Chalice Players who perform periodically on Sunday mornings. Our congregation also holds a diverse variety of cultural and perfomance events throughout the year.
Social Activities
CVUUF knows how to have fun! A number of social events are held throughout the year to celebrate and strengthen relationships within the fellowship. These include an annual summer campout, and an annual fall retreat, and holiday potlucks and restaurant dinners. And, of course, whenever people come together at CVUUF, for whatever purpose, an element of fun and friendship is always present.
Young Religious Unitarian Universalists (YRUU) Group
CVUUF is proud to enjoy an active and dynamic group of teenaged UUs who meet regularly to support and celebrate each other's spiritual and social lives. The YRUU group meets each Sunday morning at 11:00 and for other events and activities throughout the year.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are an integral part of CVUUF. Volunteers serve on the Board of Directors, the Council of Directors and several committees that provide direction to our worship services, facilities, social activities, religious education and much more. Volunteers also serve as Religious Education teachers, ushers, greeters and in many other positions. We are also always in need of extra hands to help fulfill our commitment to provide free meals once a month to people in need.
